the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document,
however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been
obtained.
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 First article. When specified in the contract (see 6.2) the contractor shall furnish first
article units for inspection (see 4.2).
3.2 Materials. The contractor shall select the materials, but the materials used shall be fully
capable of meeting all of the operational and environmental requirements specified herein. The
materials specified in the applicable drawings are recommended, but are not mandatory. Selection
criteria of the class, grade or type part shall be that the material will be able to perform its intended
function when it is assembled. Verification of the supplier meeting the overall performance
requirements shall be the governing acceptance standard. Recovered materials shall be used to the
maximum extent possible.
3.3 Description. The Optical Imager, SU-103/UA and SU-103A/UA, referred to herein as
the "Imager", consists of thermally compensated optical elements which focus the IR energy from
a mechanical scanner onto the detector array of an infrared system. The two models differ in their
internal configuration but are identical in performance and external configuration. In system usage,
they are completely interchangeable.
3.3.1 Design. The Imager shall meet the form, fit, function and interface requirements
specified herein.
3.3.2 Dimensions. The Imager shall have the dimensions and dimensional tolerances
specified on Drawing SM-D-804143 for the SU-103/UA or SM-D-969565 for the SU-103A/UA
to ensure proper physical interface with existing hardware. Dimensions of the mounting flange and
housing for both versions shall be in accordance with Drawings SM-D-773420 and SM-D-773603
to ensure proper interface with existing hardware.
3.3.3 Weight. The weight of the Imager shall be 522.1 grams or less when weighed with a
scale having an accuracy of 1% or greater.
3.4 Components. The number of components comprising the imager shall be held to a
minimum consistent with meeting the performance requirements. Drawings are to be considered
as a guide, except for those cited for dimensions in 3.3.2.
