3.5.3.4 Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) requirements. An input of one volt (peak-to-peak)
shall deviate the transmitter ± 300 kHz peak when the modulation sensitivity is adjusted to its
maximum. The metering circuitry shall enable the operator to adjust the peak deviation of the
transmitter to ± 180 kHz and ± 300 kHz with an accuracy of +2.2 and -1.25 dB with inputs of 1
to 4 volts (peak to peak). The transmitter shall be considered to have met this requirement if,
when tested in accordance with the 12 and 24 CH PCM metering sections of the test specified in
4.19.3, it meets the specifications thereof.
3.5.3.5 Signal to noise (PCM). The transmitter shall be tuned to any of its operating
frequencies and operate at rated RF power output. A 10 kHz sinusoidal signal shall be applied at
the video input terminals of the transmitter and the transmitter shall be adjusted for a peak
deviation of plus and minus 180 kHz. The receiver output, when the receiver input is coupled to
the transmitter through sufficient attenuation, shall be 0.45V ± 0.15 peak to peak at the
unregenerated output terminals. Under these conditions, the ratio of average detected signal
power to the average noise power at the unregenerated video output terminals of the receiver as
measured with a flat weighted meter shall be at least 12 dB when the receiver RF signal is -94
dBm and at least 31 dB when the received RF signal is -74 dBm. With the transmitter adjusted
for rated peak deviated (plus and minus 3000 kHz), the receiver unregenerated video output shall
be 3/4 ± 1/4 V peak-to-peak and the signal-to-noise ratio shall be at least 16 dB when the
received RF signal is -94 dBm and at least 35 dB when the received signal is -74 dBm.
