interference requirements of Appendix A to this specification.
3.7 Interchangeability. Same type test sets, assemblies, subassemblies, special tools and
replaceable parts shall be physically and functionally interchangeable without modification.
Exceptions are as follows: focusing of the collimator lenses and adjustment of the LED monitor.
Individual items shall not be hand picked for fit or performance.
3.8 Reliability. The Test Set shall have a minimum mean time between failure (MTBF) of
1000 hours when operated from 110 Vac, 220Vac or 28 Vdc power. Replacement of light
bulbs, fuses, and desiccants shall not be considered reliability failures.
3.9 Treatment and painting.
3.9.1 Metals and metal treatments. All selected materials shall be of corrosion resistant
types or shall be treated to resist corrosion. It is recommended that all metallic parts be treated
and painted in accordance with drawing A3134100. Standard MS or AN parts do not require
refinishing.
3.9.2 Finishes. U.S. Army olive drab is the preferred color unless precluded by
operational requirements. All external surfaces, except light transmitting elements, that are part
of the test light path shall be prepared in a non-reflective finish.
