MIL-PRF-49434A(CR)
3.15.5 Environmental Stress Screening (ESS). An ESS failure is any
shortcoming, imperfection, or operational nonconformance, including a one-time
nonrepeatable anomaly, either sudden or gradual in nature, which causes the
unit under test to deviate from specified limits. ESS failures include poor
workmanship, defective manufacturing processes, and defective components.
Non-ESS failures are those directly attributed to failures of test monitoring
equipment, failures due to operator errors, failures occurring during repair,
or failures due to test equipment generating overstress conditions.
3.15.6 Zero/Zeroed/Zeroing. With the IAL attached to a weapon, this
procedure adjusts the IAL's laser beam so that it is coincident with the
bullet's point-of-impact on a target at a particular range.
g. Uniform (i.e., constant) acceleration of magnitude 32.17 ft s-2.

4. Verification.
4.1
Classification of inspections. Inspections shall be classified as
follows:
a.
Initial production inspection (4.2)
b.
Quality conformance inspection (4.5)
4.2 Initial production inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the
contract or purchase order, the initial production inspection (IPI) shall be
performed by the contractor (see 6.2.l).
4.2.1 IPI samples. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or
purchase order, thirty samples shall be selected from the first IAL production
lot for IPI. Disposition of IPI samples shall be in accordance with the
contract or purchase order (see 6.2.j).
4.2.2 Inspection. Each IAL shall be inspected in accordance with Table
II, both in process and when assembled, as required. ESS, if performed on
IALs, shall be performed last. Presence of one or more defects shall be cause
for rejection of that IAL and may be cause for rejection of IPI.
