MIL-PRF-49434A(CR)
3.7.8.2 ON/OFF switch. The IAL shall have an ON/OFF switch with five
positions: OFF, Momentary ON, ON, Momentary ON, and OFF. Only the Momentary
ON position shall be used when the IAL is mounted on the M16A2 rifle by
applying pressure to activate the switch and by removing pressure to
deactivate the switch. The design of the ON/OFF switch shall prevent
unintentional activation of the IAL when carrying (with either hand, or with a
shoulder strap on either shoulder) or laying down the M16A2 rifle. ON/OFF
switch operation shall be indicated on the IAL.
3.7.8.3 Beam movement. Each adjuster shall move the beam at a nominal
rate of 0.4 mrad/click and each adjuster shall have sufficient accuracy to
meet the following requirements at each of the eight test points.
Zone boundries
Actual beam position on target
Within a circle of 8.0 mrad
Within a square of side 1.2 mrad
Zone 1
diameter centered on the
centered on the true position
target origin
Within an annulus of 8.0 mrad
Within a square of side 1.6 mrad
Zone 2
inner diameter and 20.0 mrad
centered on the true position
outer diameter centered on

target origin - defined as the location of the beam center point on the
target when the IAL is set to the neutral position (both AZ and EL).
Zone 1 - the region defined by the described circle centered on the target
origin.
Zone 2 - the region defined by the described annulus centered on the target
origin and concentric with Zone 1.
true position - the theoretically exact location of the beam center point
established solely by the number of adjuster clicks.
