laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Description. The AN/PAQ-4C Infrared Aiming Light (IAL) system
consists of an operator's manual, an aiming light assembly, a remote switch
assembly with cable hangers, M16 mounting equipment (see 6.2.o), a mounting
adapter for M2 and M60, cleanup materials, a textile carrying bag, and a
shipping/storage case. The IAL is a self-contained infrared (IR) source used
by soldiers wearing Night Vision Goggles (NVG) to deliver accurate weapon fire
at night. The output beam shall not be detectable by the naked eye under any
environmental conditions.
3.2 Performance characteristics. The IAL shall easily mount on and zero
with the M16 rifle (see 6.2.o) using the M16 mounting equipment provided with
the IAL. The IAL shall be capable of being mounted on, zeroed, dismounted
from, and mounted on the M16 rifle without changing beam location by greater
than 0.5 milliradian (mrad) from the initial zero setting. Operation of the
IAL on the M16 rifle shall not require any modification to the weapon. The
IAL, when mounted on the M16, shall not interfere with normal sighting devices
on the weapon or restrict movement of the soldier. The IAL, when used in
conjunction with AN/PVS-7( ) NVG, shall enable the soldier to deliver accurate
fire at a minimum range of 600 meters. The textile carrying bag shall be
capable of carrying the IAL, an operator's manual, the M2/M60 adapter, and all
equipment necessary to mount, operate, and zero the IAL to the M16 rifle.
3.3 Construction. The system shall be constructed in accordance with
drawing A3187000 and all provisions of this specification. In the event of
any inconsistency between this specification and the drawings, this
specification shall govern.
3.4 Initial production inspection. When specified in the contract or
purchase order, the contractor shall furnish initial production inspection
(IPI) samples and inspect them in accordance with 4.2 (see 6.2.l).
