MIL-PRF-49434A(CR)
3.7.10 Visual security. The IAL shall incorporate a removable optical
baffle assembly which prevents the IAL beam from being detected at off-axis
angles of greater than 6 degrees when viewed with NVG. During IAL operation,
there shall be no IAL beam reflections from the mounting bracket or the weapon
when viewed with NVG.
3.7.11 Size. The external volume of the IAL with the optical baffle
assembly, battery cap assembly, and thumbscrew assembly installed shall not
exceed 7.2 in3 +0.5 / -0.0.
3.7.12 Boresight alignment. When set to the neutral position and
mounted on the M16 rifle with the M16 bracket, the IAL shall project a beam on
a target at 25 meters which is within 4 inches vertically and 4 inches
horizontally of the longitudinal axis of the M16 barrel.
3.7.13 Boresight repeatability. When set to the neutral position and
mounted to a secured M16 bracket, and then fully detached from the secured M16
bracket, and then reattached to the secured M16 bracket, the IAL's final beam
position shall be within 0.5 mrad of the initial beam position.
3.8
Environmental.
3.8.1 High temperature. The IAL shall not be damaged (see 3.15.1) by
storage at temperatures to +71oC and operation at temperatures to +51oC when
tested (IAW) MIL-STD-810C, Method 501.1, Procedure I.
3.8.2 Low temperature. The IAL shall not be damaged (see 3.15.1) by
storage at temperatures to -57oC and operation at temperatures to -54oC when
tested IAW MIL-STD-810C, Method 502.1, Procedure I.
3.8.3 Altitude (operational). The IAL assembly shall not be damaged
(see 3.15.1) when operating at an altitude of 10,000 feet (3,048 meters) and a
temperature of -54oC, and shall not be damaged after storage at an altitude of
50,000 feet (15,240 meters) and a temperature of -57oC when tested IAW MIL-
STD-810C, Method 500.1, Procedure I.
3.8.4 Temperature shock (non-operational). The IAL assembly shall not
be damaged (see 3.15.1) after being exposed to a temperature change from +65oC
to -57oC in a five (5) minute period when tested IAW MIL-STD-810C, Method
503.1, Procedure I.
3.8.5 Humidity. The IAL assembly shall not be damaged (see 3.15.1) when
exposed to a relative humidity of 94 percent + 4 over a temperature range of
+23oC to +65oC for up to 10 days when tested IAW MIL-STD-810C, Method 507.1,
Procedure II.
3.8.6 Immersion (non-operational). The IAL assembly shall not be
damaged (see 3.15.1) after being temperature soaked to 45oC and immersed in a
minimum of 30 inches of fresh water for a minimum of 120 minutes when tested
IAW MIL-STD-810C, Method 512.1, Procedure I.
